It's easy this time of year to be thankful. It's easy for us to say we are thankful for our family, our homes, our food, and all the things that seem to flow from a grateful heart. It's easy to give praise and remember so well on Thursday all the greatness that has been provided to us.
The excitement of the holiday also easily wears off and the stresses of life quickly become real again. Let the joy of being thankful not leave our lips by the time we rise on Friday morning.
Colossians 3:15 says:
And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as member's of one body you are called to live in peace. And ALWAYS be thankful.
Here Paul, the writer of this letter, is calling us to a relationship of thanksgiving with Christ and others in our daily life. The walk with Christ is not just about a one time submission. It is not a one time feeling of awe and amazement. It is a relationship, a journey.
Paul writes about this relationship first by saying let this rule your heart. It's not "I hope you find a time of year to have that fluffy feeling in your heart." Let this lead you.
As a child who has submitted to God you are given His blessings here and now. It is not something you have to wait to attain. Christ says let the peace flow through you.
Sometimes we look at our circumstances and say, "How can a God of love have given me this circumstance? How can a God that has promised me peace for my journey be allowing me such turmoil?"
We begin to question His great power and authority. We are not our circumstance. We are not the turmoil we are living in.
IF YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD YOU ARE WHO HE SAYS YOU ARE IN HIM.
In Him, you are given the promise of help through the circumstance. You are given endurance for the race. You are given the hope of his mercies in the turmoil.
Paul ends this verse by saying always be thankful. Even in your circumstance, even in your turmoil. I know that thought seems incomprehensible sometimes but God is faithful and he we guide you on this journey to walk in Him.
I can promise you in telling you that if you show up to meet Christ, He will be there and you will realize when it felt like you were all alone it was really Him carrying you through.
May God bless your family this thanksgiving. I am thankful for each of you and your support of my journey in this ministry.
