Best of... 2015

I am so excited to share the Best of 2015 with you today before we turn the page of time to a new year. I have been blogging for a little over a year now. You all have shown me so much support and I appreciate you joining me here weekly to read the new posts.

In 2015 I have done several thing to the face of my site. That is always fun to tweak. I have started a Tuesday Morning Email list called Sitting Among Friends. I love to be able to sit down with friends and just go over life together. This has been an awesome opportunity to get to know people better. If you too would like to join our mailing list you can subscribe at this link...
We would love to have you.

This year I have also started a Wednesday Blog Party called Sitting Among Friends. Here at this party, blogger friends from all over the web stop by and post a link to their web page where they write and share their gifts, talents and passions for life.  If you have not seen any of them you must stop by and Share in their work.

The blog parties have had a lot more views than most, thanks to the awesome friends that have stopped by. I am just going to list them here in case you missed any of them.

Hope and Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #5

Hope. Seems as if we are searching for this thing. Hope.

We are personally ill or have a friend who is battling an illness. We hope for treatment. We hope for a cure. We hope for recovery. We hope for rest.

We have been searching for just the right job. We hope it fits the life of our family. We hope it will bring us satisfaction. We hope our co-workers are nice or at least tolerable.

We are seeking peace in our relationships. We hope they will understand. We hope they will meet us in the middle. We hope for some resolution. We hope the kids will be okay.

Hope. Daily. Seeking. Hope. In Something. In Someone.

This is one reason that I love the Christmas story. Whether you are a believer or not you could not have gone through the Christmas Season and not gazed upon the manger scene.

No matter where you were at, you could not have avoided it. Nearly every street on every block has the manger scene.

Maybe you hoped it had nothing to do with you. Maybe you hoped it had something to do with you. Maybe you hoped it had everything to do with you.

What I love about seeing baby Jesus in the manger is it reminds me of the hope that came.
Jesus Christ came as hope. Hope for the past. Hope for our present. Hope for our future.

Merriam-Webster defines hope as, to cherish a desire with anticipation or to desire with expectation of obtainment.

One of my favorite verses is Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

It is one of my favorite verses because I feel like it defines me. I have a confident faith in what I hope for, the reality of Jesus Christ. Who came in the flesh to dwell among us, died, was resurrected, and now is seated at the right hand of God interceding on my behalf on a daily basis.

You might ask, how do you know that? How can you say that with confidence? Did you see Christ in the flesh and how can you believe these stories?

My answer is hope. My hope came for me. My hope is someday returning for me. My hope is in Jesus Christ. Hebrews reminds us we can have the assurance of this hope.

For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. Romans 8:24-25

Many people may argue that Jesus Christ is not or was not real. Many argue His existence. After all, with my own two eyes, I have not seen Him. I will not argue that point today. Romans, however, tells us hope is not seeing because who hopes for something they have seen. (I do not hope for my neighbor to get better when I have already seen she is well.)

Hope is the anticipation, the eager perseverance of waiting for what we confidently know to be true.

How can I know and have confidence in this hope?

I have witnessed the hand of God in my life. I have witnessed the rescue of my heart. I have felt the peace that comes only from God and we are called to be of witness to that hope.
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15

Quick story. My five-year-old little guy was outside with me. A recycling truck came by my house and as the giant metal arms of the truck were picking up the recycling bin, my guy got scared, ran away from me right past the truck. As he did, the arms came up and the bin on it hit him square in the face. He flew back to the stone surround of the flowerbed with a near miss to the back of his head. There is really no reason why he came out of that accident with a few loose teeth and a scratch on the chin. Everything about that should have gone severely bad.

I saw every second of it. It plays over and over in my mind. Every time, it brings me to tears. Why? My guy was saved.

My God is good. In God, I have hope. Some days, in some situations, it is all I have. It is what makes me persevere when times are tough and I have nothing else to grab or hold onto.
Hope. Hope for my past. Hope in the present. Hope for my future.
What do you do with this hope? Do you grab a hold of this hope for yourself? Do you continue seeking hope in something or someone else? The choice is yours to make.

If you missed The 12 Praise of Christmas. It is a compilation, my husband and I put together, with a list of Scriptures and Christmas Songs. Some of my favorite songs with lots of different versions from some of my favorite artists.

I want to encourage you this year to embrace the imperfect holidays. I have been reading so many posts and it seems people feel such pressure to have everything just right. I understand this.

The holidays bring added pressure with family (that we only see at regularly scheduled intervals)  getting together for "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". But this joy quickly gets shot down by unrealistic expectations and ideals that leave the holidays full of anxiety and stress.

Let's try a new thing this year. Let's love the people that we were given. Let's go into the holiday gatherings and love people for who they were made to be. We ourselves are not perfect and that is why we celebrate this holiday.

Because of our imperfection, God decided it was time for reconciliation and humbled himself to this lowly abode. Became a servant and loved the unlovable and the unlikely. That's us. That's your family. The imperfect beautiful mess of it all. He loves you. He loves all of them.

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21

Can you be like Christ this Christmas? Can you put your expectations of picture perfect Christmas aside long enough to just love as Christ loved you?

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #3

Thank you for coming back to Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #3. I hope that you have enjoyed the last two parties. I have loved all the ideas, inspiring stories, giveaways, and encouragement that we have received from all of the bloggers. If you have not been able to read those posts you won't want to miss them you can find them here at Party #1 and Party #2.

I am so glad to see so many new faces and sit down with all of you.

This week, as we get closer Christmas, I love reflecting on the birth of Christ. What a Miracle we are able to retell about Christ coming to this Earth to rescue us.

The prophets and the all God's people for generations had been waiting for the promised Messiah to return and He finally did. His rescue was not ordinary. In fact it was so extraordinary that many people missed it and still miss it today.

Friends, I do not want you to miss the opportunity to know Christ and to have a genuine relationship with Him. Do not wait and do not miss it. His return will happen and on that day, on that amazing glorified day, you don't want to find out you were too late.

But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

Seek Him, He is knocking at the door. Let Him in. He will show you what the next step is.

Now enjoy these other great posts from all my Friends at the Sitting Among Friends Blog Party.

Blogger Friends, here we go, week three. Thank you so much for returning.

The 12 Praise of Christmas

The 12 Praise of Christmas

I love this time of year so much. How blessed we are that Christ came to dwell among us.
I know for many that it is so overwhelming with all the gift giving and pressures during time with family.  I pray that you will find peace this season.

We will celebrate the coming of
The Prince of Peace.

I know that some people get frustrated because the real focus of our King and Savior is completely lost among all the hustle and bustle. I pray that you will be able to enjoy the moments and the beauty that surrounds us.

Here are The 12 Praise of Christmas for those trying to focus on the real reason for Christmas with great verses and some of my favorite songs. I hope these verses and songs will sing to your heart throughout this Christmas Season.(Each contains a link that will take you to the song.)

Day 1 – “For nothing is impossible with God” Luke 1:37 - O Come O Come Emmanuel (1)

Day 2 –She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21 - Mary Did You Know? (2)

Day 3 – And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:10  Joy to the World (3)

Day 4 – The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14  O Holy Night (4)

Day 5 – On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.  Matthew 2:11

Day 6 – Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11  What Child Is This (6)

Day 7 – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6  For Unto Us A Child Is Born (7)

Day 8 – "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him." Matthew 2:2 We Three Kings (8)

Day 9 – "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." Micah 5:2  O, Little Town Of Bethlehem (9)

Day 10 – All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means 'God is with us'). Isaiah 7:14  Silent Night (10)

Day 11 – And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7
Away In A Manger (11)

Day 12 – For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Hebrews 3:14  O Come All Ye Faithful (12)

Peace for the Season & Sitting Among Friend Blog Party #2

Christmas and the holiday season can be a very exciting time or a very stressful time for families. Some people experience both making for a whirlwind of emotions.

Almost seven years ago, my husband and I lost twins. One week before Christmas, I was in the hospital delivering them. For a couple of years after, I would get very anxious right after Thanksgiving and I could not figure out why.

Finally, I realized like clockwork this time of year meant facing this in our lives all over again. Although God has done a miracle in rescuing my heart, I still think about them. I know that they are in His loving arms and I praise Him for that.

This time of year brings a bit of sadness but also a lot of peace. I know some people may not understand what God did and does in those situations but we can be certain of one thing. God loves us.

He is our rock and foundation when life is tough and trials come our way. We can draw near to him and He will draw near to us. He is God and even if we don’t understand, we can be granted a peace that would surpass that understanding.

For me, Christmas has always been a joyous time. To not only celebrate the life of Christ but to celebrate the life Christ has given.

Now it means treasuring the memories I have and looking forward to making more in the future.  I love getting together with my family. I love giving gifts to the people I love. As I get older those occasions seem to be fewer. So I will hold onto the time God grants us and pray for joy in each of those moments.

What things are you facing this holiday season? Christ came to this Earth as Immanuel, meaning God with us. Even though we may feel alone, God is just a prayer away. I pray for each of you as you read posts this week. I pray you will be encouraged by each of them. Whether you are facing a trial or a difficult season in your life I pray that you will find joy in the moments that are laid out before you.

Have a wonderful week.

Seek Him First! Today's Bible Reading

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

It is of utmost importance that you know that Christ died for you. He died for all sinners so that our relationship with Him could be restored.

Because of His sacrifice on the cross we can have peace. Are you seeking more peace today? Peace of the soul can only be given through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ.

I hope that you, too, know the saving grace of an amazing God.
