The Great I AM

I have been a Christian for a long time. I became saved when I was twelve years old and literally grew up in the church. I have attended regularly since I was in my mom’s tummy. I have seen many things over the years at church. I have visited other churches as well and I am often left with the same question.

This is the same question that I have heard from people that have been new to the faith, old to the faith, and from people that would never even grace the doors of a church.

Why are Christian people so stuffy? Why does the church look and feel so sad? Why is it that you attend church and it feels so ho-hum? Why do people look like they have swallowed sour grapes?

You meet a Christian person on the street and life is a bowl of lemons. Some people have been Christians so long, they have lost their Umph. When I decided that I must surrender my life to God’s goals and His worship it was because I didn't want to be one of those people sitting in the pew week after week the rest of my life and settle for resting on Easy Street. I show up, do my good church thing for the week and move on until next week. A burning passion and love for my Lord requires me to do more. Much More.

Do we as “Christians” give Christianity a bad name? Have we forgotten who we are in Christ? Have we forgotten what He has done for us?

Every time I am in God’s Word I am convicted or restored in my faith. This article may be a gentle reminder for some and a conviction for others. Please don’t give up on it. Read it through. It is intended to get your wheels spinning and for you to see my greatest passion is for people to really see Jesus and enjoy a passionate walk with Him.

My questions are to believers. How does a Living God that brought you from the depths of your sin not set your hearts on fire? How does a God that delivered you from the bonds that had a grip on your life not excite you and make you want to sing out to His Great Name?

If you are not hearing from God
You are not listening.

If your rooms have turned dark
Turn on the light because
In Him there is no darkness

If you feel stuck in your story
Of life you need to
Meet the Author of Life

If you feel no joy in this day
Meet the Redeemer

If you don’t hear the whispers from
The One who calls out to you
You need to meet your Creator

If you can’t breathe in
His Love you need to
Meet His One and Only Son

If your heart is broken or aching
Meet the Great Healer

Christians of this world need more than a revival. We need Christians on their faces in reverence for the Majestic King of Kings and for the Great Lord of Lords. We need Christians with their noses in the Word of God. We need Christians with their heads bowed and eyes closed and their focus on the Living Savior.

We were made for more than simple revivals; we were made to thrive. In Him we are to have life abundantly.

Everyone is in a hurry these days. Everyone is busy rushing to soccer practice or the next dance recital. We are so busy we can’t even keep up with ourselves and the schedules that we try to maintain.

Do you wake up in the morning and hurry to hear what the Word of God is saying? Most of us wake up in the morning and we can’t wait to check our email, our text messages, or our friends’ online status. Are we rushing to make an appointment with the One who gave us our breath this morning?

Do you have the pedal to the metal to pick up your Almighty Father? Is God calling you on your personal line, is He sending you a text message?  Is that what the urgency is; is that why you keep staring at your phone?

Where is God? I can’t hear Him, I can’t see Him, I can’t feel Him. You left Him on the roadside a few years back, so if you want to jump in your car and fly to your next destination, Go pick up your God He’s right where you left Him.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9 the Lord says, “My grace is sufficient for you…” It is all you need. It is sufficient. It is enough. Are you seeking more?

If you need someone to talk to
Bow your head in prayer to your Mighty King.

If you need a great read
Open His Word

If you want a change in your life today
If you want to have a burning passion for the
One who made passion because
Nothing will ever be more satisfying

The God Plan Part 2

If you missed the last blog post, “The No-Plan, Plan” go back so you can see where this story started.

Several years ago, I surrendered my will to God over something really huge in my life. It was something that I had no control over but I knew my only hope was to surrender. It was the most freeing time in my life. Since then, I have been working on the God Plan. I say working because we are a constant work of transformation when we are working in God’s plans.

At the end of last year, I was struggling with where and how I was going to be ministering. I continued to use opportunities at my church but kept wondering if this is what God wanted to do with me? I had this burning desire to share God’s Word but was struggling with knowing what He had planned for me.

Sometimes we may feel like we are working on God’s plan, we may be serving and doing all that we feel He is asking of us but we want results. We want answers or we want a clear sign or signal that we are on the right path. But then what feels like happens is nothing. No sign, no clear signal, because God says wait. You are on my plan. You are on my time clock. If we trust Him we have to sometimes do just that, wait.

My friend sent me a verse that spoke the words I was feeling so well I was pretty sure that it was written for me.

Jeremiah 20:9 But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in His name, His Word burns in my heart like a fire. It is like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

How can I spread His Word? I am trying to wait on the Lord but I felt like it was being shut up inside of me. I felt like there was a lion ready to roar and his mouth was being held shut. Just as Jeremiah cries out, it is a fire burning in my bones. I can no longer hold it in.

God’s love is so awesome and so overwhelming that if I held it in any longer, I thought I may just burn up. There is a lot of pressure to keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself, especially if they are not what everyone may want to hear. But just as Jeremiah proclaimed, I have too, I can’t do it!

So I said to God, what will you have me do? What is your plan for me? Take me there. You lead and I will follow. My first outlet has been my blog.  There has been just over 1300 page views in three months. I thank you for that and for sharing these words with your friends. But those numbers are entirely the work of a powerful Lord. When I started I wasn't of Facebook or Twitter, and had zero email contacts. I said it had to be in His power and connections because my were apparently very little.

When I first started writing my blog page, I wanted to check it all the time. I wanted to check it a couple of times a day. That was pretty difficult considering I don’t have the internet. I found myself wondering if it was working or it was being successful. Not for my own sake but for the sake of spreading the Good News. As if God needed my help, I kept right on top of it.

After about a week of this repeated checking, I remembered, Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God! After all, I felt like I was writing to serve God, but was I trusting Him to make a way and make a path for His word to be delivered.

Then I had to step back and remind myself that I had told God I was going to follow Him, I was going to let Him lead me. I decided to only check my sites when I was posting something new. Until then, I would be still, and let God do His work because His word will not return void.

This is hard to do and say. We find security in trying to control our situations and our outcomes. We want it all done, done right and done now. The only way to get that done is to do it ourselves, right?  No. Sounds easy and sounds difficult.

We can rest assure that He knows the plans He has for us. He knows if this is the path He wants us to take. He knows what He wants to do with us. We just have to trust His plans and if we allow Him to take the lead, we have to let Him make a way.

God’s plans for me are not all unknown to me. We have His Word, His directions for living. We are to love and serve Him with all of our heart, all of our soul, and with our entire mind. We are to go and make disciples. We were put here now, at this time, to serve Him and His purposes. All of those words are action words. We are to take action and do His good works.

We have two contrary thoughts. Wait and take action. The balance is a hard thing to find. So ask yourselves? Do you trust in the Lord to do His will, and while you are waiting, what are you doing to work and serve His purposes?

As you think about those questions this week, pray, and make yourself notes. How will you serve Him? Make an action plan, even if it has one thing on it, pray over it and do it for Him in the best way you can. Then, write down the things in your life where you are going to be still and let HIM be your God.

"The No-Plan Plan" Part 1

When I began my college career I set out to be an early childhood educator. I actually had a plan. I had a college roommate that was also in education and we would always joke that college was our “Plan B”, our backup plan. “Plan A” was being stay-at- home moms and if that didn't work out we needed something to fall back on. This was what we were doing at college, ensuring that we had a backup plan.

After a series of unplanned events, I had to use my back-up plan. However, this plan did not work so great either because it took me a couple of years to find a job. So I decided to work on a different plan. “The No-Plan, Plan”

For years, I lived on this plan. Doesn't it sound brilliant and well thought out. My plan was “the No-Plan, Plan”. As assuring, I’m sure, as this plan sounds to many people, you are probably left with many questions or thoughts.  This kind of plan is impossible and improbable. Everyone has got to make plans. What kind of insecurities does it start to stir in your minds?

The truth was I was going wherever the trade winds were taking me or wherever Friday or Saturday night may have led me. I had no direction, no goals, and no real purposes. I moved 5000 miles away to get a new job. You could say my plan was a bit unsettling and that is exactly how it usually felt. If I was somewhere too long I would get a little stir crazy and began looking for the next best thing. Don’t get me wrong it led me to many great spontaneous adventures that I couldn't have planned so well myself, but what was my purpose, when do I stop looking for something else to fill whatever I was searching for.

Some people have to have a plan. It has to be set out in stone and laid out well in advance of all major life events.  No offense ladies, but us girls are notorious for our fairy tale planning.  We need to have four children, a husband that is supportive, good looking, successful, loves me and adores my children… and the list goes on… and we need to live in the house with the white picket fence and we need to have this all accomplished by the time we are just at the right age of 25. If possible we would like that gift wrapped in a castle were we can live out our well planned life. Whew! My “No Plan, Plan” is starting to sound better by the minute.

Who could keep up? Don’t get me wrong, goals are good for setting and long as you are not setting them into the stones of your mind. You may be able to accomplish many things but what happens when the plans, or the dreams, or the aspirations keep getting pushed to the wayside year after year. What happens when all is smooth sailing and life rocks your boat or tosses you right out into the sea?  What next, where do you turn?

I heard someone on the radio the other day say, “If you want to hear God laugh, tell HIM your plans.”

This reminds me of the story of Jonah. Some of you may know the story of Jonah. God told him to go one direction, to a place he really did not want to go, and he took the first boat in the opposite direction, and tried sailing on his own course. Here was Jonah in the middle of the sea, boat sailing smoothly in Jonah’s direction and God sends a storm.  Jonah probably thought he was going to be able to ride this one out but the storm gets so bad and Jonah knows the only answer is for him to exit stage left and he is tossed overboard.

For Jonah, God sends out a rescue plan, a giant fish to swallow him up. Some of you may be thinking this doesn't sound like any kind of rescue but in my opinion this was God’s mercy being poured out on this man.
He let him stay in his discontent for three days until he realized God’s plan was the only plan. When Jonah repented, God had that big fish spit him onto dry land. Jonah decided to obey and go in God’s direction.
Are we allowed to make our own plans? Yes. Are we allowed to live out our own plans? Yes. Just like Jonah, we can try to run in the opposite direction that God has set out for us and the weather may not even look that stormy, but where are we going? What are we doing? Are we satisfied when we get there?

I love this verse. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

What I love about God is He knows. He says I know; I confidently know what I know for you and about you, I know what I have laid out for you. I know where this is going to take you. I know all the details that you are fretting about. I know down to the minute how this will play out. I know how this is going to end. I know. I know He says.

He doesn't assure us this will be an easy road. He doesn't even assure us here that it will be smooth sailing. He takes us to a different place. Whatever His plans are for us, they are for good NOT for disaster, they are to give us a future and a hope.  This is so promising. Everyone wants a future full of hope. This is such a relief, of all the plans that I have ever made or not made, He knows and He will take care of me. He will do it for His good purposes and He will do it to give me a future of hope.

Do you trust Him? Do you trust the plans that He has for you? Do you have something really big on your plate right now and you just can’t see the end and you don’t know which way to go? He knows. Do you have something that is minor on your plate but it is felling like the weight of the world in on your shoulders? He knows about that, too. Do you trust Him? Do you trust the plans that he has for you?

I’ll pray for all that you are facing right now. I pray that He uses it to draw you near to Him. Follow Him, Follow HIS plans, they are for your future and for your Hope. Have a great week.

I also ask you to please pray for God’s plans for my life and this ministry as I continue to write. Please see my next post about how I am now working on God’s plans for my life.

What is all this Love?

According to statisticbrain.com, the average Valentine's Day spending is $13.19 Billion dollars for this day. They also report the number of Valentine cards exchanged annually is 180 million and the number of roses produced for Valentine's Day is 196 million. The percentage of consumers who celebrate Valentine's Day is 61.8%.

So with Valentine's Day right around the corner everyone is going to be talking about love. What about you? Does it make you feel great to think about all of the people that you love? Does it make you feel squeamish and uneasy? Does it make you feel resentful or do you like to celebrate love and the loves in your life?

Why do we love? How do we love? What is love, really? Am I capable of loving?Am I worthy of being loved? Lets answer these questions so we can celebrate a real love, this season, deep in our hearts.

1 John 3:16 We know what real love is because Jesus gave up His life for us.

1 John 4:7-11 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been fathered by God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him. In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.

The question of where does love come from is answered in 1 John 4. Love comes from God because God is Love. I love reading the words of John. John was one of Christ's 12 apostles. John walked with Jesus, lived with Jesus, witnessed first hand all that He said and was while ministering here on earth. A first hand account and witness to the love of Christ is amazing to me. I have to wait to physically walk hand in hand with my Lord but John got to experience this first hand.

We are able to love, we are capable of love not because of who we are or what we are capable of doing but because of who God is and He is Love.

I recently had a conversation with my husband and I was telling him that I love him and the more I read God's Word, the more I fall in love with Christ, the more I love him. That also pertains to my children.

I remember driving my kids to school one day and I was looking in the rear view mirror, you know the place where all things become more clear, and noticing all that I have with them. I was thinking, I was crabbing at them all the way out the door, so we are not late, and we get in the car and have all this anxiety around us from all the rushing. I just want to have joy and pure love for my beautiful children. I began praying for God to give me this joy and sure enough He shows me in His Word that He is Love and for me to experience this with my family I need to get closer to Him and He will show me how to love them more and be more loving because He is Love.

John tell us in chapter 3, we can know what real love is because Jesus gave up His life for us. The greatest dmonstration of love came from Christ Himself. Does this mean that we have to die for Christ or die for our family to show them that we love them. No, what it means is that we give ourselves up for someone else when we love them. We give up our own lives for Christ. We surrender our life to Him so we can see and witness this love first hand.

I realize in the me centered society we live in, the idea of giving ourselves up for someone is a bit of a stretch for some and a far cry for others. What John is saying is this is how Christ showed His love for us and if we want to experience this kind of love we have to be able to put ourselves aside and put others in front of us. If you think that this statement is unrealistic look at the following statistic.

According to the same website, 53% of women would end their relationship if they didn't get something for Valentine's Day. Wow, Ladies!

I want to challenge you this holiday, male or female, because Valentine's Day is usually centred around women, to give up your desires and try to think about the other people in your life and think of ways you love them and can show that love to them. Even if the gesture is not returned, you are putting yourself aside and taking the time to love others, first. Read more of 1 John and see how Christ put himself aside to love you. The greatest return on your love investment you will ever get.

Let us know how you are going to be spending this Valentine's Day and let us know what the special things you do to show others you love them.

Thank you for your continued support, I love all of you and the support you have given to me and this ministry. Have an amazing week.

My Great Provider

A family walked into a restaurant after the “dinner rush” on Friday night. They had already gone to a different restaurant two different times to get in but the wait was at least an hour. With little kids that was not going to work out. After considering a few different places they finally turned into a small Mexican restaurant. This place too, was packed but tables were clearing quickly so it looked hopeful.

While they were watching and waiting for a booth to open, the mom was trying to keep the hungry boys wrangled and the dad was searching for a restroom.  Finally, a table was cleared and the family sat down to search the menu and try to save money by skipping the kid’s meals. Craziness seemed to be whirling around the little kids. Excited to be in a new place, the littlest one kept bouncing in the booth, while the father kept trying to keep her from bouncing away.

Does everyone notice them the parents kept wondering?  Does everyone hear them correcting their children, again? As the parents continued to be flustered with the hungry kids, a nice couple walks by and the man says with a smile, “You have good kids” and proceeded to checkout.

The mom and dad just looked at each other and life seemed to freeze for a moment. What a reminder for the parents to relax and just enjoy their time with the kids. The parents talked about how hard that is to do when you have little kids and you are in a public place. You want to make sure that your kids are being well behaved and not interrupting other peoples’ dinner.

The family finished their meal and started putting coats on to leave, hoping the waiter would then hurry with the check. A different waiter walked up and said, “Your check has already been paid, have a great evening.” Maybe he had their table mixed up with someone, the mom thought. Confused and bewildered, she was able to get out the word, “who”. The waiter said he didn't know the couple but he pointed to a table close by and said the couple that was sitting right there.

The family moved slowly out the door waiting for a camera crew to pop out from behind a tree or somewhere to say “you’re on candid camera”.  No one came, no one popped out of anywhere, everyone just smiled and said have a nice night.

Sounds like the beginning to a really great book or a movie, right? I know exactly what it felt like because this family… was mine. As we walked out of the restaurant last Friday night my husband and I said, “That doesn't happen. That only happens in the movies. What just happened? ”

We proceeded to our car and the tears were flowing from my eyes. God is good. Sometimes He overwhelms me so much that I can’t fight back the tears. We could have paid for our meal that evening, but a kind couple for some reason felt compelled to take care of it. We just sat in our car, a bit overwhelmed, my husband told our kids what had happened and said, “God is good” and we just prayed, thanking God for all His goodness and providing for us in the most unexpected ways.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will have all you need and plenty left over to share with others.

Look around, how has God provided for you this week in the most unexpected way?  Reflect on all His goodness and please share with us, it is always great encouragement.

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

It is of utmost importance that you know that Christ died for you. He died for all sinners so that our relationship with Him could be restored.

Because of His sacrifice on the cross we can have peace. Are you seeking more peace today? Peace of the soul can only be given through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ.

I hope that you, too, know the saving grace of an amazing God.
