Beyond Myself and Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #9

There are times in my days that I am just beyond myself. I am beyond patience, beyond reason, beyond love and self-control and all of the things that make me myself. I feel stretched beyond the limit and I am not even sure what my limit is.

I have small children and often times my day, being “good” or “bad” revolves around their behaviors and their attitudes. It makes me feel completely out of control and then I get a bit edgy.

There have been times when life feels relentless and I have to walk away (by myself in another room, mom's don't get that much). There have been times I did not know what else to do except cry out the name of Jesus. Nothing said, except the sweet subtle name of Jesus. He knows my heart, He knows my inner thoughts. So I just cry out in His name.

Here is a really awesome song that gives me such encouragement and reassurance in my Lord. I hope this song, “There is Power” by Lincoln Brewster encourages you as much as it does me. Here is a link http://youtu.be/UoOJwel1CQU

But what if?

But, what if I didn’t let my day be controlled by outside influences? My children’s behavior. The driver in front of me while I’m taking my kids to school late. Again! The lady at the checkout, I won’t mention the store, that has blamed me for employees stocking the shelves in front of the wrong tags.

What if, instead of crying out to Jesus at the end of my rope, I walk with Jesus and I let Him go a step before me. What if my decisions and my attitude revolved around Jesus’ promises and assurances to me? What if I don’t let the circumstances or surroundings of my day become bigger than my God?

What if?

My life, if I let it, can quickly define me or my God, if I let Him, will define me.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:1, 4

We can remember the victory is already His or we can let our faith be pushed behind our circumstances. We can remember that we are His children or we can continue to live as children of this world.

I have been wrestling with putting short temporary things in my life (my children’s feelings, the lady at the drive-thru, the person cutting in line at the checkout) on a scale of uttermost importance.

Last week, our pastor was talking about idols and taking things in our lives and weighing them high on the scale.

He gave a wonderful illustration. He explained, it is when you take good things (kids, spouse, family, jobs, our success, money, hobbies, our kid’s hobbies, ministry, etc.) and turn them into ultimate things.

I feel like so many times that I am stretched thin beyond my own recollection, it is due to turning little petty things into monster things.

I have made my ultimate, My God, take a back seat to me and I begin to feel defeated. Why?

Because I belong to Him. First and foremost, when I make God my center, my rock, I cannot be shaken, He is the firm foundation on which I stand.

When I let my surroundings determine who I am, how I feel, and how I respond, I am on sifting sinking sand. Because those are things of this world and like all things they will pass. And when the tide gets high or life gets overwhelming, I shift. I sink.

What are some of the things you are struggling with making your priority or ultimate thing? What are the good or bad things that you have let become your ultimate thing?

What is my solution? What is our solution?

Build our life on the solid foundation of Christ. Remember that we are His children. We need to take a hold of His promises and wrap them around us like a life-saving buoy.

The promises He has given us are not shakable or dependent on this moment but are grounded in eternity. Is our ultimate thing potentially furthering the kingdom of Heaven?

Unchanging Love and Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #8

Last week, if you missed my post, I explained that my short post was due to being on jury duty. I don’t know if any of you ever had the opportunity to do that, I found it to be a very interesting process.

The case that I was called to was not a real emotional case. It was a matter of did he or did he not commit this action with intent do wrong. The matter was over property and that is why I say it wasn’t a real emotional case.

The part that was the most difficult was to leave personal thoughts aside and only examine the evidence and make a decision on guilt or innocence.

This wasn’t a simple matter like I deal with on a day to day business, of he took my stuffed animal. This was someone sitting at defense and as the jury, you make the decision of guilt or innocence. There is real pressure to get that really right.

During this process, I have been thinking about my life and what if I was sitting in the seat of the defendant. I would be guilty of many things. Things I wouldn’t want to admit. Things I am reserved to even think about because they begin to conjure up thoughts of shame, guilt, worthlessness, and doubt.

I could begin to think about all the things I deserve. I know if we all look at our life, even if we think we are pretty good, honesty floats to the top of our mind and we can think of those things we deserve nothing but punishment for.

As believers, we don’t have to trudge those waters. We have the hope of Jesus. He has taken all that we may feel so inadequate about and turn it upside down. He says you are now dressed in my robes of righteousness. I don’t know about you, but that floors me.

It completely boggles my mind because I know that my list is long.
God, however, in His God-breathed scripture has given me assurance that I am forgiven.

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Isaiah 43:25 "I--yes, I alone--will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.

Micah 7:18-19     Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea.

If you skimmed over those verses, go back. Be assured that God has taken your sin and He has done exactly as His says.

He has cast them as far as the east is from the west. He has cast them into the depths of the sea. For His name sake, He will never think of them again.

In our finite thinking, it is hard to fathom. In our own lives, we often hold onto the offenses, the hurts, the wounds that have been committed against us and by us.

Listen carefully friends, God reminds us that He alone will blot out our sins and Micah tells us why. Because He delights in unchanging love. His love for us doesn’t waver. It isn’t dependent on our ability to be loved or be loving. It is solely based on God’s character and He is unchanging love.

I don’t know about you but I find those ideas so complicated and so simple. God loves us because He is love. He needs nothing else. We cannot add or take away from who God is and how He chooses to place that love on us.

All we can do is choose what to do with all that love. We can keep it to ourselves or we can drink it up and let the rest spill over onto those around us.  We encounter people daily that need to know the unchanging saving grace of our God. They need to know that He is a God who loves and gives the hope that is within us.

Go, be that light and be that love.

Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #7

I have been out of the office this week (aka at my desk with my laptop) serving my civic duty. I have not had the opportunity to do any writing because it has been an all day thing. Days like this I wish I had more prepared in advance. Many of you, however, know what it feels like when you feel like you can barely keep up let alone have a surplus of life available. I am also relying on scheduled tech programs to work.

This is me this week. I hope to be back on track by next week.

I just want to say for anyone who has the opportunity to perform what is considered to be your public duty, you should take the opportunity. I know at first it may seem annoying, frustrating and highly inconvenient to have to figure our a new schedule for your life for a few days. But it is an interesting process and it will hopefully teach you more compassion for others in the position of the court and you never know when you or someone you love will be on the other end of that and you need to be there for them.

So without further ado here is this week's linkup.

One Word - Jesus. and Sitting Among Friends Blog Party #6

This week I had the awesome opportunity to guest post on a new friend's site. You can find Lenae at Fancy and Fearless. Lenae is a lifestyle and faith blogger and has a beautiful new space, so be sure to read the rest of my post there. Before you slip away, don't forget to link up at this week's Sitting Among Friends Blog Party

Over the years, I have taken on many business adventures. It is not necessarily because I like to sell stuff, but I love being creative. When I have created products, I have wanted to get them in the hands of others and that usually ended in creating a small business.

When I lived in Hawaii, I became enthralled with making jewelry. After studying the processes and asking a lot of questions, I created Seaside Design. (I lived on Seaside Avenue.) When I moved back to the mainland, I continued to make jewelry, even though at the time materials were less assessable.

A couple of years later, I learned how to sew. I began fashioning items such as handbags, purses, aprons, wallets and planner covers and created You’re Sew Trendy. I loved crafting things because it was very challenging. Part of the challenge was; I do not know how to use patterns. So, I would have to study a picture or object and try to figure out how to recreate it adding my own style.  What became of it, was a product I loved and appreciated.

What An Honor! - Liebster Award

Friends I am so honored to share this post with you. I am going to combine to posts. I hope this is okay and not against the rules.

Recently, I have been sent 3 messages about being nominated for an award. The reason I didn't respond right away is because I have to nominate other bloggers. As I have only been blogging for a year, I did not know many people.

Recently, I started Sitting Among Friends Blog Party and what an amazing opportunity it has been to meet and read the work of other bloggers. I just want to say that there are so many talented, gifted and passionate people that really are doing great things online.

This post may look long but it is a lot of question answer so it reads fast.
The first Award that I received was the Sisterhood of the Traveling Bloggers Award, which I will write about on another post.

For the Liebster Award, I was nominated by two different people Tanya from WilliamsStand and Trena and Beth from Classes by Beth. I had to look at what both of these Awards were because I wasn't exactly sure what they meant.

My main question was when would I be able to dress up to walk down the red carpet to receive these awards to proudly display on my award shelf. So much went running through my head, like where am I going to get my new outfit? Who am I going to thank? Who will I take with me? The list goes on.

Apparently, after some diligent research, that is not going to happen. Something, possibly even greater, has occurred.   My fellow bloggers, whom I love, have noticed that I am here and have wanted to share this with me. How Awesome! Thank you so much for the encouragement. Now it is time to pass that encouragement on to some other great writers.

This is the way Liebster Award works: (After you take your bow, of course.)
1. You write a post accepting the award.
2. You include the person that nominated you for the award and anything they may have said about your site and link back to their site.
3. You answer the 5-10 questions that they asked from the link from their site.
4. You choose 5-10 bloggers that you would like to pass the award on to. This is supposed to be for newer bloggers with 200 or so followers. That information is hard to find so you be the judge.
5. You ask the bloggers that you nominated to answer 5-10 or your questions in a post.
6. Those bloggers pass the blogging love onto others.
You can choose to accept or not accept this award but it helps everyone out by posting links to some of your favorite blogs on your page and encouraging some friends to keep doing what they do. You get to post this pretty award sticker somewhere on your blog.
So without further ado...

Thank you so much for the nominations.
The first nomination came from my Jamaican friend, Tanya Williams. She writes at WilliamsStand.
Please stop by and read her posts. She has a unique way of looking at life and loves the Lord and wants to share her passion for serving Him with you.
 To answer Tanya's questions
1. What activity do you do that makes you forget time and space?
Blogging and keeping up on posting on social media. Time can quickly slip away from me, I have to be very conscience about how I spend that time.
2. What is your all time favorite movie?
I don't know that I have a favorite. I do enjoy watching movies for the entertainment value. I have never however, had favorite things like that, I just enjoy many things.
3. Do you dance in public when you hear your favorite song?
Yes, I love dancing. Last year at my husbands Christmas party we danced the whole time and had a blast. This year we were taking it slow and easing into it. AKA, I was waiting for him. One of the sweet ladies that takes pictures at work functions came over and sat with us and asked us why we were not dancing. So not to disappoint our fans we joined right in.
4. Whose music are you listening to right now?
Anything on Christian Radio. My favorite stations are K-Love and Moody radio.
5. When Jesus called, did he say your name?
What a great question. When Jesus called me I was 12 years old, which seems like forever ago. I am not sure I even remember that girl. I do remember very vividly realizing that I was a sinner and that I was in desperate need of a Savior. I praise the Lord I don't ever forget that.
6. What 3 things make you happiest?
Jesus, My husband and kids, and my family. (I had to list 4)
7. Have you ever visited Jamaica?
I have never visited Jamaica but if I do I know who I am going to visit.
 8. What is the best writing tip you have ever received?
Be honest! Remember why you are doing this.
9. If you knew blogging would be this hard, would you still do it?
Blogging was not my idea nor my first choice for reaching the world with the gospel. I knew, however, God was calling me to do more and go beyond myself with serving Him. If this is what He wants me to do. He will make a way and lead me down that path. I thank Him for giving me the opportunity to reach so many people with His Glorious Word.
10. Are you ridiculously happy ?
I know my answer should be Yes! I have Jesus living inside of me there should be no reason for me to be anything but ridiculously happy. Let's just say I am His work in progress. I am truly working on finding joy in my moments.
I know this may sound contradictory but when I meet people, I generally have a smile on my face because I love being around people. It is so enjoyable to me.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My next nomination came from Trena and Beth at Classes by Beth. Thank you so much for the nomination. This site is one of my new friends from my blog party. They do a blog about Homeschool Middle and High School Virtual Classes - Live Feed, Classmates and Personal Interaction from a Biblical Worldview. This website is packed full of resources.
  • This is what they posted on their site about Seeking God - Jaime presents encouraging and inspirational posts, sure to make you smile with her sincere enthusiasm for the Lord! Thank you so much for those very kind words. Here are the answers to your questions.
1. What’s your favorite blog post that you’ve written and why?
How do I narrow it down. I write and rewrite until I love it (My obsessive personality) . But I think that my most recent favorite post was The 12 Praise of Christmas. It was a lot different post than I usually write.  My husband helped me with the writing of it for first time, which was awesome. It combined two things that I love, scripture and music.
It was very well received by my readers. All good things.
2. Why do you blog?
I told my husband I wanted to work for God and I think he was afraid that would mean we would have to move to another country so he suggested blogging. Honestly, I think he was just being supportive of this new calling I felt and he wanted to show it by giving me an idea.
3. What is your greatest motivation for writing?
Obedience to God. I felt like He was asking me to do more with what He had given me and asking me to take a risk for Him. This was a risk and a challenge and this is the path I feel I have currently been given so I will serve my purposes where He put me.
4. What’s the first thing you look for when checking out a new blog?
Honestly, like anything else. I think we look on the outside. Does it look appealing. I have changed my blog so many times just trying to tweak it's "curb appeal".
5. Do you follow a specific schedule or just write when the spirit moves you?
I write and post almost everyday. Unless I am away. I want to send people daily encouragement to walk with the Lord because life it tough and we are required as believers to build the body up and so that is what I spend a lot of time doing with encouraging posts.
6. What comment are you most thrilled to see from readers?
I am most thrilled to hear that a reader was encouraged by the post. People have occasionally told me that they are still thinking about something that I had told them a while ago. That really encourages me. I was a teacher in my former life, before being a stay-at-home-mom. So anytime someone tell me they learned something and it is sticking with them, gives me a lot of joy.
7. What do you think is the strongest feature of your blog?
I recently started Sitting Among Friends Blog Party. I love the opportunity to have great writers gather in one place. It is like we are all sitting down in a big group and just discussing life. It is truly wonderful.
8. What aspect of your blog do you want to improve this year?
Where do I start? I have so many ideas. I actually want to get my own space with my own web address. I have always wanted to have that but due to finances that is not currently happening. Any tips would always be welcome.
9. What widget do you find to be the most useful?
I like my google+ widget. I like to look at my friends that I have community with. It reminds me who I am writing to. I know it may not be a big deal to some people but I think about my followers and wonder how they are doing with their walk with the Lord. The ones I hear from quite often, I begin to worry when I don't hear from them in awhile. Of course, I would like to hear from everyone but I know for some people that is very time consuming so I am just glad they are here.
10. How often do you read other bloggers’ posts?
Now that I have my Sitting Among Friends Blog Party, I read a lot more blogs. I try to get to as many as possible every week. For the past four weeks, I believe I have read every blog and commented with everyone that posted up with me. I am not sure I am always going to be able to keep up with that pace. I do like encouraging people and I want them to know they are valued here. It has been a good experience and they are fantastic at what they do.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That was fun but now the really fun part. I am so excited to be able to nominate other bloggers. Since I have combined two nominations, I am going to do one list of nominees and one list of questions.
I know many of these people have a larger following and are not new to blogging (This rule I am going to break) These are bloggers I really enjoy for so any different reasons. Please visit them and share their blogs. All are fantastic godly women. They are in no particular order.

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

It is of utmost importance that you know that Christ died for you. He died for all sinners so that our relationship with Him could be restored.

Because of His sacrifice on the cross we can have peace. Are you seeking more peace today? Peace of the soul can only be given through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ.

I hope that you, too, know the saving grace of an amazing God.
